My time at EGX 2017

So I went to EGX again this year. This would be the point in the article where, if I’d have been a real journalist, I’d have given a brief background into EGX. But I honestly can’t be bothered to make that kind of effort right now. All you need to know is that it’s a big video gaming and culture convention that take place in the West Midlands of the U.K. for 4 days a year.

It’s the third time I’ve gone in as many years and it’s pretty standard fare as far as these type of conventions go. A bunch of developers, large and small, show up and pedal their wares, so to speak. On top of that there are plenty of other attractions. Wooderon Most Disappointing Games of 2016

Like last year, I need to end a 10 day series of celebration by complaining about something. However good the games of 2016 were, there were still some big old stinkers. but that’s not what I’m going to talk about in this post. I’m not talking about bad games, well I am, but I’m specifically going to list the three games that disappointed me this most this year. I hit Monster Hunter Burnout

I really like the Monster Hunter series. In its early days it was a totally unique experience for me. Where most games would have you button bashing your way through combat, Monster Hunter took a much more methodic approach. It was about learning tells, strategy and making the most of narrow windows of opportunity. It taught me a patience in playing video games I never knew could exist before. Despite the games have always been incredibly popular in Japan, interest was always tentative at best here in the west. It wasn’t untill the games made the jump to Nintendo and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate came out that I think it really started to become somthing people knew about.
