Back in December, I wrote a piece during my month of masochism (or game of the year if you’d prefer) about how Overwatch was nearly my favourite game of 2018. Being honest though, even then, I was not currently playing Overwatch, and had not been for some months.

When I was relatively free from a hell of blogging and had more time to pick up Overwatch again during the Year of the Pig event, I found myself unable to reconnect with the game I had recently praised so much. Even now, with a new character announced and interest high, I find myself struggling to enjoy the game that had given me so much enjoyment in the time since its release.

My Personal Highlights from the 14/02/2019 Nintendo Direct

A typical Nintendo Direct always manages to see me swinging wildly between extremes of emotion. I’m either as hyped and ready to pop as a well shaken bottle of champagne, or I’m utterly disinterested in the Nth instalment of some long running JRPG series that is neigh indistinguishable from the two announcements either side of it.

My Personal Highlights from the 14/02/2019 Nintendo Direct

I came into this Direct primarily hoping there would be any utterance of what the new Pokemon game for Switch could be. Unfortunately, after watching the whole thing, there wasn’t a pocket monster to be seen. That doesn’t mean I was unhappy with Nintendo’s offerings in their latest direct broadcast though. I’m not going to break down everything mentioned, just the things that compelled me to actually started writing about them despite myself.

Anthem: Why Play this when I could Just Play Destiny

Anthem comes out in a few weeks and the closer we get it Bioware’s latest game getting released, the more my initial enthusiasm for the game ebbs away. After a pretty strong reveal and my own personal desire for a return to good Bioware manifesting qualities to the game that might not have ever actually been there, the likelihood of Anthem hitting the ground with the promised level of quality and content seems real unlikely.

After a less than convincing marketing push from EA and then the eventual word of mouth getting around, thanks to more and more people got their hands on mostly finished builds of the game, it seems like Anthem is already gearing up to have many of the same issues as its competitor games in the genre upon its release.
