November 7th: The day of the Shepard

Saturday was N7 day, an arbitraruy reason for Bioware to celebrate their greatest creation: Mass Effect. Bioware built up to the day by asking people what they were going to do during this landmark date. Personally, I spent the day playing Halo 5, not because I dislike Mass Effect, it’s just a three year old game at this point

While the day didn’t amount to much more than Bioware drawing attention to themveslves and a messege recorded by Jennifer Hale in a passing of the torch type deal, it did get me thinking about Mass Effect and how damn good it was. I’ve always been able to forgive a bad story if a game had good gameplay, Mass Effect was almost the exact opposite of that. It had one of the best video game stories in anything I’ve ever played.

Gears of War: Victim of its own success

So the remake of Gears of War is out on the Xbox One this week. And I know what you’re wondering; Am I going to rip on it for being an unnecessary remake, that I have some long standing dislike of Gears of War or some other negative or passive aggressive nonsense about the series. Well I’m not going to do anything like that. I like Gears of War in fact, back in the day I spent a significant amount of hours playing it online. So does that mean I’m going to go out and buy this remake? Hell no I’m not.

Sonic the Hedgehog hasn’t changed, we’ve changed

Sonic the Hedgehog means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. To some he is a punchline, an opportunity to laugh at those who still seem desperately cling to a ship in the midst of being sunk, repeatedly. To others he is a constant source of frustration, a tease who seems so close to redeeming himself only to make them feel the fool once again. Then there are those that see Sonic as a terrible game series, one that was never really as good as everyone seemed to think it was.
