Gears of War is Really Boring

I recently made a choice I’m surprised I didn’t make a hell of a lot sooner; I subscribed to the Xbox Game Pass. Amongst all these brand new games I could be sinking my teeth into like Sea of Thieves or State of Decay 2, for some reason I found myself ignoring these and instead downloading the remaster of the first Gears of War that came out in 2015.

I didn’t have any solid memories of the first Gears, not really getting into the series until the second game. So playing through the game in its entirety for what might have been the first time, in all its brown, muddy, ultra-violent glory was a far less exciting experience than I’d first assumed. But like a dope, despite its shortcomings becoming apparent early on, I still trudged through to the end.

Game Prices are Balls

Price is such a big issue with video games purchases these days. I remember the days of my youth when you’d trot into a game store and just pay cash, then never interact with anything beyond what was on that cartridge again. If the game was broken, it was just a quirk of that game and people would learn to live with it. Given it was a time where games rental was a much bigger industry.

Today, prices of games sway wildly. You can find indie games on steam for a pound, Triple A releases of a few years ago go for next to nothing too in sales. But when it comes to the new big releases in a year, If you want to get the best price for the game you have to to do a little more research than just prancing to the local outlet.

Gears of War: Victim of its own success

So the remake of Gears of War is out on the Xbox One this week. And I know what you’re wondering; Am I going to rip on it for being an unnecessary remake, that I have some long standing dislike of Gears of War or some other negative or passive aggressive nonsense about the series. Well I’m not going to do anything like that. I like Gears of War in fact, back in the day I spent a significant amount of hours playing it online. So does that mean I’m going to go out and buy this remake? Hell no I’m not.
