Mid-Week Review: Sonic Mania Plus

I was positively glowing in my reaction to Sonic Mania last year. In fact, I would have happily called it my favourite video game of 2017. Had Nintendo not put out what might be the best Legend of Zelda game they’ve ever produced. It goes without saying I’d be excited to play an expansion to the game that adds new characters and features, aptly named Sonic Mania Plus

For every good thing to be said about Sonic Mania, the highest praise I could ever give it was the obvious love and care for the franchise that went into making it. It was made by people who “get” what fans actually want out of the franchise, mostly because it was made by people who were fans themselves.

My Initial Reactions to: Destiny Warmind

Bungie and Destiny haven’t been in the best place these past few months. As much damage control as it seems the developers have been running, they can’t really seem to catch a break. After the release of Destiny 2’s first expansion; The Curse of Osiris, many were questioning how game could continue when it seemed to be losing players at a rapid pace.

Bungie seem determined to learn from their “mistakes” and have been very vocal in broadcasting their future plans and direction. I mistakes ion quotes because, for better or for worse, they’ve taken the vocal criticism of the fan base very seriously. At face value though, Destiny’s second expansion; Warmind, appears to be taking the game in a direction fans seem to be… less critical of.

My Thoughts on: Into the Breach

Take one part Pacific Rim mix it with some Starship Troopers then add a dash of Edge of Tomorrow. Mix it all into Advance Wars/X-Com like combat and this is what you end up with. Into The Breach is the second game from Subset Games, and the followup to FTL: Faster than Light, a game spoken about on this blog none too long ago.
