If there’s one thing a Pokemon game loves, it’s routine. Since the days of the first game, there has been a pretty strict blueprint which following entries in the main series have scarcely strayed from. One of these rules is that of the rival trainer; an individual of comparable skin that accompanies/dogs the player at every turn, acting at the measuring bar to gauge just how strong the player actually is.

Can you really say more with silence: Part 2 – The inconsistently silent modern protagonist

Yesterday, I mostly talked about Nintendo’s home grown characters and how they went in two majorly different directions regarding both of them. This was mostly in regard to characters who has started as silent protagonists though, and a choice was forced upon the developer as to whether they should keep this up moving into the 21st century. Today, there are stilla  lot of developers that choose to give their games player characters who never utter a word.

Can you really say more with Silence: Part 1 – Different approaches with Link and Samus

This is a topic I touched upon once before, a long time ago. When I was writing for various other websites. However, when looking back at my past stuff, I realised that the original article had been lost to time, and expiring domains. Which is quite fortuitous as it turns out. As there have been a few games on my radar that have brought this topic up again in my mind and I can talk about it again without fear of plagiarising myself.
