They took the Star Trek out of Mass Effect

I already mentioned I wasn’t too hot on the new Mass Effect. The thing I felt was one of the biggest let downs in Andromeda was that it felt like a Video Game first and a story second. I know, crazy right. Seriously though, I never really cared about the gameplay aspects of Mass Effect. It was always the world building and the character interactions that drew me in, and I think a lot of other people felt the same way. It was a kind of science fiction, a space opera that we rarely see in video games, and it might have been too much to hope that EA would allow Bioware to do something similar for Andromeda.

Telltale need to upgrade their Tech

Y’know, Telltale have been making the same game for a pretty long time now. Since The Walking Dead game came out five years ago to critical acclaim, they’ve continued to bang that same drum over and over. For the most part I don’t mind, because they generally tell a good story. In the end though, the story has always been window dressing for what is essentially the exact same game every time.

Thoughts on: Ghost in the Shell

My prior knowledge of Ghost in the Shell consists of the following: There was a game on the Playstation 1 in which you drove a red ladybird tank and that the original story is supposed to be kind of a big deal. That’s pretty much it. I ended up deciding not to colour my opinions the movie by searching out any of the source material beforehand. In part because a lot has been said in the build up to this movie and little of it positive. I realised that much of this was to do with the choice in casting and differences in tone. In the end, I thought I’d be better off just going to see the movie and judge it by its own merits, not involve myself in any of the debate that seems to dog the film.
