The Mini Console Bandwagon

Video game preservation is an important topic when it comes to the retro space. The industry is producing more video games now than ever before, and thanks to the digital and online nature of how we access the majority of modern games, there is a baked in solution to preserving all of the dating sims and shovelware than Steam has to offer.

It’s when you look back at the games of the earlier days of the industry, when you feel a sudden urge to play some obscure childhood favourite from the PS1 or TurboGrafx-16 that you realise you have no idea how to play those games today. Deadpool 2 feels like Fox’s Apology

Deadpool 2 is a crass, immature, sometimes vulgar movie which also happens to have a huge amount of heart to it. Quietly, I felt that a lot of the reason the first Deadpool was so successful was because of how unexpected it was: a fresh take on the genre that also wanted to rip it down. Going into the sequel, I was always kind of worried that Deadpool 2 would be a lazy, more of the same, kind of movie. I’m happy to say I was wrong.

Looking back at: Pokémon Trading Card Game (Gameboy)

The Pokémon Trading Card Game is huge. It might be the biggest physical card game around right now, selling around 2 billion cards a year on average. Not to mention the major tournaments held on an annual basis that the Pokémon Company stream on their Youtube channel.

It’s also nigh unrecognisable from how it looked back when it first popped up in the early 2000s. Back then, most kids I knew just collected the cards, but very few of them actually played the game. I was one of the losers with an actual interest in playing the game properly, an opportunity that never really presented itself to me outside of a game on the Gameboy Color.
