Should you play Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter World just came out and it’s literally all I want to do right now. This always happens when a new one of these comes out. The Monster Hunter grind is like some insatiable drug I can’t resist. It was enough of a struggle to break myself away for long enough to actually write this.

I actually took a short break from the series when I just couldn’t play the game on a handheld anymore. So, the time that had passed, combined with this being on a console meant that when I got my hands on this game, it was like some beast had been unleashed and no amount of Monster Hunter seemed able to sate its hunger.

Putting my fanboyisms aside for a moment: Monster Hunter World is probably the best stepping on point the long running series has ever had for people new to the series. Monster Hunter has always been something of an impenetrable series of games to get into. This new entry does a lot to streamline the experience, removing the unnecessary bits of upkeep that used to add extra layers of complexity to a game that was dense enough already.

Battlefront II is almost good old EU

When It was announced to the world that Disney was making a high profile business acquisition of the Star Wars franchise, and would be making more movies to follow on Return of the Jedi, with a spin-off movie every other year, meaning we’d be getting a new Star Wars movie every year until the end of time. Well, needless to say, people were excited. I actually experenced hype overload and started to resent the franchise. But that’s because I’m a giant petty child.

I got the Sonic Mania

There comes a point where being a Sonic fan is also to be a Sonic apologist. I’ll put my hands up and say that most Sonic games that have been released in the past 15, maybe 20, years have been bad. There have been some good ones. But you could argue that they’re good by my terrible standards and aren’t actually worth anything out of nostalgic context.

One thing that people who aren’t ingrained into this suffering/series tend to agree on is that the original games, the old 16-Bit releases, were actually pretty decent. So it amazes me that it took Sega so long to come out with a game like Sonic Mania. Continue reading “I got the Sonic Mania”
