Blair Witch: The lazy train keeps rolling

Looking through all the reveal trailers from this year’s Comic Con in preparation for something I’m writing,   I spotted something else that whipped me up into a familiar frenzy of frustration. Some background first, I have a friend who is usually more knowledgeable on new movies than I am, and he has been telling me about an upcoming found footage horror movie that might be worth a watch. It was called the Woods and there was some buzz about it.

At Comic Con this year, Lionsgate showed he first real trailer for this “Woods” and made the shock reveal that the movie was, in fact, a direct sequel to 1999’s Blair Witch Project. Simply called Blair Witch

Sonic Mania and Sonic 2017 announced

Once again the cycle renews, filling its disciples with hope that their saviour will once again return. Thus is the Sonic Cycle.

I’m going to put my hands up and identify myself as one of those people. Y’know, every time a new Sonic the Hedgehog title gets announced and the comments on the news articles are filled with people expressing their shock that people still buy these games. Yeah, me. I’m one of the people keeping the nightmare alive. I’m aware that Sonic the Hedgehog is probably a series that should just give up the ghost and leave it be, but when it comes to video game nostalgia, Sonic the Hedgehog is so rooted deeply to my core that I can’t help but woop in excitement when a new Sonic game gets announced, never mind two.

I hit Monster Hunter Burnout

I really like the Monster Hunter series. In its early days it was a totally unique experience for me. Where most games would have you button bashing your way through combat, Monster Hunter took a much more methodic approach. It was about learning tells, strategy and making the most of narrow windows of opportunity. It taught me a patience in playing video games I never knew could exist before. Despite the games have always been incredibly popular in Japan, interest was always tentative at best here in the west. It wasn’t untill the games made the jump to Nintendo and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate came out that I think it really started to become somthing people knew about.
