Wooderon Games of the Year 2017: #7

Do you want to know what game was cool as hell this year: Nioh. It’s baby Dark Souls with a Japanese mythology setting and Samurai combat. Do you want to know what game was still too hard for me and stopped me playing it despite how cool I thought it was: Bloodborne.

But I had the same issue with Nioh. It’s a really cool game, but I’ve never really been able to get into that Dark Souls style of hard third person action game. This is the closest I’ve ever been to properly investing time into one of these games, and I feel like I made significant progress too. But in the end, my baby pain threshold stopped me from progressing any further before I eventually dropped off. It’s real good though and worth looming into if you have a PS4 and like that type of game.

When we get to today’s entry on my game of the year list, some of you may be baffled how hypocritical my previous few paragraphs seemed. But trust me, I’m better at shooters than third person action games. Also, I can’t be bothered booting my PS4 most of the time anyway.

#10: Prey

#9: Star Wars Battlefront II

#8: Cuphead

Wooderon Games of the Year 2017: #8

Okay, I just spent a bunch of paragraphs trying to justify why a pretty naff game has made it onto my top ten games of the year list. So from here on out it should be all gold right… Well we’ll see won’t we… If anyone reading this knows me or has spent any time reading my stuff on here over the past few years I can think of one game coming up you’re already expecting a rant about. But we’re not there yet… or are we.

Seeing as I just waffle in these early paragraphs, I’m going to use the space to shout out a game that didn’t make my list this year, but I still recommend people go out and play if they can: Little Nightmares is a weird little indie game from Tarsier Studios in Sweden. It’s a very creepy game I’ve talked about before. My main reason for not including it on my list was how short it was. If I’d gone back and played it more than once, it might have found its way on here, but as of right now Little Nightmares was a one and done game for this year, as much as I still think about that creepy ass thing.

Back to the list though:

#10: Prey

Wooderon Games of the Year 2017: #9

This year, there were actually a few games that didn’t make it onto my list that I feel kind of bummed I didn’t get a chance to talk about. I could have squeezed this game and Prey off to talk about Battle Chef Brigade or Puyo Puyo Tetris, but I would have just come off as a right stuck up jackass if my GOTY list consisted of a ton of Indie games. I mean, it would have been dishonest… yeah.

At least I didn’t have the same problem I had last year where I was struggling to cobble ten games together worth talking about at all. Don’t get me wrong, I liked XCOM 2 just fine, but I couldn’t get passionate about it. Unless you’re talking pissed off as a type of passion.

Enough Waffle though, I’m going to get on with the list. Like previous years I’ll link the previous numbers in my list before teasing you with a link to see what I gave this entry.
