I finally finished the Final Fantasy VII remake toward the end of last week. It was a moment I had been dreading, because I have being really enjoying coming back to this total reimagining of the well-loved Playstation game from the late 90s, despite not really having that strong a nostalgic tie to it. But having read a lot of hot takes on Twitter; maybe that’s for the best.

We arrive at the penultimate entry in this series, one that has taken me much longer to complete than I had originally expected. But here I am, talking about what I feel was a rare misstep from Marvel Studios this late in their game towards what I’m sure they’d regard as their masterpiece.

I continue to not really understand this game nor the true stakes of it. But a long as I switch my brain off and just ride along with the flow, it’s fun seeing the characters do their thing and start to get some small amount of insight into these new roles they all hold. I get the impression, had I not imposed myself to write about every episode on an individual basis, I’d probably be enjoying Tower of God a lot more.
