Excitement and Misgiving for the Star War: The Rise of Skywalker Trailer

Finally, after months of waiting, the trailer and the title for the new Star Wars movie has dropped. Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. As a title, this isn’t one I think I could have predicted, the thing that shocked me even more than the title itself though was the general reaction to the trailer online; which was wholly positive.

One of the last times I spoke about the Star Wars movies in any great length, it was unfortunately a piece to lambaste the fan base for their utterly pathetic backlash in response to The Last Jedi, and their targeting of particular people they (incorrectly) deemed responsible for their displeasure. Not liking a movie if fine, acting as though they had a right to do the things that were happening is not.

I wanted to hate the Han Solo movie

I walked into Solo with pretty low expectations, I’ve not been especially excited about this one since it was announced. Walking out though, I can happy say that I has a lot of fun with this movie. I worry though, that my enjoyment of this movie was purely from a place of deeply seeded Star Wars fandom that lessens me as a person.

I spoke about the problems this movie had in its production before, how Phil Lord an Christopher Miller were given the boot as directors and replaced with an infinitely more middle of the road director in Ron Howard. And while some of the excitement I had upon leaving the cinema has worn off, I still got a lot out of this flick.
