Wooderon Games of the year 2017: #4

You know how I talked up how the Playstation 4 has the better exclusives in comparison to Microsoft and the Xbox One at the beginning of yesterday’s post. Well, again spoilers, yesterday was the only game I played on the PS4 that makes it onto this list. There were other Playstation exclusives I picked up, but it’s not my main console.

It’s just that I’m not really a fan of Uncharted… I picked up Cosmic Star Heroine. That was cool, but I never really started playing it properly became of Overwatch being an all consuming void of time for good portions of the year. Oh, Puyo Puyo Tetris! Very cool game. I mean who doesn’t like Tetris, and it actually taught me how to play Puyo Puyo to a passible standard, so it’s got that going for it. But technically, this game has been out in Japan for ages, so I can’t really put it on my list… Yeah.

So… Back to the list. Please don’t hate me Sony fans.

#10: Prey

Wooderon Games of the year 2017: #5

For a lot of people, 2017 was the year of the Battle Royale. Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds took the world by storm when it came out in early access on Steam. I was very tempted to pick it up, but then it was announced that there was going to be a console port at the tail end of the year, so I thought I’d wait. But then Epic jumped on the tailcoats of PUBG and released a new mode for their game Fortnite on console, much to the disgruntlement of the PUBG developers. Especially when it took Epic’s under performing game and breathed new life into it, changing what it was.

I played a little Fortnite but couldn’t get into it really. The 1 vs. 100 gimmick didn’t do a lot for me and I found myself going back to more tried and tested waters for me, Like Overwatch, or Destiny 2. I probably will give PUBG a try when it comes to console. But in case you were wondering my thoughts on that whole genre/flavour of the month, there it is, and why it doesn’t make an appearance on my list. Spoilers, I guess.

Wooderon Games of the Year 2017: #6

This time last year I was talking about Nintendo and how I felt bad that they didn’t have that many good games for me to talk about. It wasn’t really a good time for them though to be fair. The Wii U was basically flopped into oblivion, and the 3DS is on its way out. It’s funny looking back, because, not to spoil anything about how this list is going to go, but Nintendo have bounced back in a big way.

I did get a Switch though. I held off for a while, after being burned by the Wii U. But I eventually crumbled and picked one up when there were a good handful of games out for it I felt I could sink my teeth into. And do you know what unexpected positive came from the Switch, it’s a hell of an indie game machine. I’ve found myself getting buried into Battle Chef Brigade and Steam World Dig 2 in a way I probably wouldn’t have ever done with them on console.

Anyway, time to crack my knuckles. I feel like this might be a long one.
