Blair Witch: The lazy train keeps rolling

Looking through all the reveal trailers from this year’s Comic Con in preparation for something I’m writing,   I spotted something else that whipped me up into a familiar frenzy of frustration. Some background first, I have a friend who is usually more knowledgeable on new movies than I am, and he has been telling me about an upcoming found footage horror movie that might be worth a watch. It was called the Woods and there was some buzz about it.

At Comic Con this year, Lionsgate showed he first real trailer for this “Woods” and made the shock reveal that the movie was, in fact, a direct sequel to 1999’s Blair Witch Project. Simply called Blair Witch

Is the MCU reaching too far?

I used to think that every new entry into Marvel’s Cinematic universe needed to change the game. I’d be disappointed if I came out of one of their movies and some game changing event hadn’t happened, something that would send ripples throughout all following productions. As the shared universe has grown and spiderwebbed out into more compartmentalised stories, I’ve come to realise that this was a silly thing to expect. That’s not to say that some things that come from Marvel probably should have more far reaching consequences than they end up showing.

But I pushed those worries down as March drew closer and tried my very best to give Batman V Superman the chance to impress me. Sometimes, being right sucks.

I wouldn’t flat out describe the movie bad. It does have its redeeming qualities and does an awful lot to set up this new shared universe it wants to create, the problem is that it is to its own detriment. Batman v Superman is too focused on being some kind of event, or jumping off point, and it makes the whole experience far too busy to be properly enjoyed on its own.
