My version of a review section, except generally nowhere near that structured. Sometimes I’ll just pick out a single talking point from a movie or game rather than a full review. It’s generally my reactionary take on recent media.
Marvel have produced banger after banger this past couple of years. Playing with expectations and mixing up the formula to keep their 10 year old franchise fresh, even keeping its more jaded fans on their toes. After Infinity War, it felt like a mart move to release a movie with a more lighthearted nature after Thanos had his way with the universe.
This would have made a real interesting pilot, had it been a Syfy original series. It has all the hallmarks of a high concept science fiction series which spent its limited budget on a stronger cast in favour of better visual effects. But as the main character’s voiceover confirmed the heavy handed themes of the movie, I realised I was probably better off.
I don’t think I was ever expecting this show to go in this direction. That first season blew everyone away with its incredible opening, its fantastically animated action sequences and its relentlessly bleak premise. Then it took approximately one thousand years for the second season to come out and everyone forgot about it. We’re in the third season now, and the frequent character deaths and aerial action have been replaced with political intrigue and government conspiracy.
I mean, it always felt like it was going in this direction in some respect. So many of the people in positions of power always looked shady as hell. With their gaunt expressions and vertical lines all over their faces, how could we not think they’re shady as…
