MCU Rewatch – Captain America: The Winter Solider and putting golden age morals into the modern era

This is an entry in an ongoing series where I am going back and watching the movies of the MCU again, sometimes for the first time since watching them in the cinema. If you want to check out my journey up until now. Then here’s a link with all of the posts thus far at the bottom.

After a few shaky entries, The Winter Solider felt like a statement from Marvel. One that put their foot down regarding a few major milestones that really established the MCU as it would grow and become more like the franchise as we see it now. It’s a movie that has no problem shaking up the status quo in dramatic fashion, it also normalises the inclusion of a wider, living cast for the future.

MCU Rewatch: Why The Avengers feels a lot safer today

As we come to the end of my rewatch of what Marvel call “Phase 1”, why not go back and take a quick peek at my Prodigious Preamble, which links to the previous five movies in the series I’ve spoken about thus far.

When I came to the end of The Avengers (Called Avengers Assemble in the U.K. thanks to some T.V. show from the 1960s I’m sure had a big audience crossover with this one) I was initially unsure about what kind of approach to make when talking about it for my blog.

MCU Rewatch: Captain America: The First Avenger is a Fantastic answer to the Superman Problem

I adore Captain America. Watching this movie again only reinforced that feeling. Now that Endgame is over, and we’ve seen his story from beginning to end, I think I’m willing to make the jump and say that Steve Rogers is my favourite character in the MCU. For all the complexity of Tony Stark and swagger of Thor, Steve Rogers is heroic to his core. He’s an inspirational figure and to put it simply: he’s just good.
